The University of Tennessee and the U.S. DOE Clean Cities Program help make the ETCFC the best it can be.

Hydrocore and PGC started getting involved with the ETCFC in 2003. both are planning to build proprietary hydrogen production facilities, hopefully in East Tennessee. We look forward to hearing more about their plans!

ORNL has achieved success but on the stationary front. They installed a 200 kW PEM (polymer electrolyte membrane) fuel cell in early 2003, and it has been successfully operating since that time. It produces about 25% of the building's needs for power and runs on natural gas. With ORNL as a Founding Partner, we're hopeful that we can collectively bring hydrogen-powered AFVs to East Tennessee (whether they run on a fuel cell or internal combustion engine)!

Hydrogen in East Tennessee

There are no hydrogen AFVs in East Tennessee. However, there are some organizations that are working to expand hydrogen usage in the region. The first two organizations to mention would be Hydrocore and Plasma Gasification Consultants (PGC). Last but certainly not least would be ORNL.
