Bonnie Raitt Kindness Yields the ETCFC and TSPB ~$4,000 for Biodiesel Outreach - 12/10/05
She fuels her four tour buses and trucks with B20 and speaks about the importance of its use almost everywhere she goes. What else can you ask for from 9-time Grammy-winning musician Bonnie Raitt? Is doing a press event and after show reception too much? Not for Bonnie...
What a fantastic person! Through coordination with the National Biodiesel Board and some other partners like the Guacamole Fund (coordinated the event), the ETCFC was the beneficiary of the opportunity to sell 50 tickets at a premium to be able to raise funds for biodiesel outreach and marketing locally! (Thank you to all the staff of the NBB for their help in selling the tickets!)
Additionally, she took the time to meet and greet with 30 of the ticket buyers after the concert, allowing the ETCFC to add to the price of the ticket. All said and done, we've raise around $4,000 from the event! Thank you very much Bonnie Raitt!!

KUB Switches 360 Pieces of Equipment to B20 - 6/24/05
After spending time trying biodiesel as B20 in a number of KUB vehicles in their test trial, the outcome was a fleetwide switch. 280 vehicles and another 80 peices of stationary equipment, like generators, all were moved to B20 after the testing was complete. They are now not only one of the largest biodiesel fleets in East Tennessee, but are also perhaps the most diversified fleet: they've burned CNG in ~60 vehicles for over 10 years, recently began purchasing some light-duty hybrids, are working toward getting either E-10 or E-85 (ethanol) in use in their gasoline fleet and, if things go well, might have one or more electric vehicles at work in the not-so-distant future.

Hawkins County goes Biodiesel - 5/17/05
Thanks to Tom Henard and the Hawkins County Co-op, B5 is now available in on- and off-road diesel in Hawkins County (in Rogersville). Tom started offering B5 at the Co-op in early May '05 and is slowly but surely bringing awareness to his community of action that can be taken at the local level to begin working on our foreign oil problems: biodiesel! Many local folks are ramping up their knowledge of biodiesel by interacting with the Co-op. One example fleet is the Hawkins County EMS crew, which runs 7 ambulances and 2 crash trucks on B5. They said they have already noticed a slight reduction in the smell at the tailpipe!

East Tennessee Environmental Conference - 3/10 + 11/05
Every year, Eastman and a number of northeast Tennessee organizations put together this conference to share information on local actions for the environment and to educate themselves to new issues they need to be watching. This year's event was hugely successful for the ETCFC as biodiesel was a very hot topic (multiple cities and for-profits were discussing it)!

Eastman Moves to Biodiesel Plantwide - 3/1/05
After spending a couple of months looking into biodiesel, Eastman, a large industrial facility located in Kingsport, TN, decided to move their ~200 diesel pieces of equipment to a biodiesel blend. They started with B5 on March 1, 2005 and moved to B20 on April 1. In addition, they are helping bring in other fleets to start using the alternative fuel. Go Eastman!

Sevier Farmers Co-op Moves to B5 in all on-road Diesel - 1/4/05
The Sevier Farmers Co-op held a ceremony on Tuesday, January 4, 2005 to show-off their new on-road diesel product which contains 5% biodiesel. The Co-op offers B5 to their fleet customers and to the general public at their main location at 321 Main St. in downtown Sevierville through two pumps--one for the fleets and one for the general public. It is a significant event in that it is a first-of-its-kind for Tennessee, where all of the on-road diesel offered has a percentage of biodiesel in it. Darrell Clark deserves kudos for heading the effort to make this step for his community and country!
